In 1998 the Geldenhuys family began the process of acquiring over 8000 hectares of land at the foot of the Swartberg Mountain range (a World Heritage Site) in the Klein Karoo, Western Cape. The land was used to develop Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate, Welgevonden Private Game Reserve and Wildehondekloof Private Game Reserve.

Welgevonden Game Breeders was one of the first pioneers of game ranching in the Western Cape, and by working together with Cape Nature has built up over 30 species of game with superb genetics and bloodlines. This includes a large herd of buffalo from top breeders with a world-class genetic gene pool. The Geldenhuys family is also proud to have played a significant role in the development of the successful Cape Mountain Zebra programme.

Swartberg Game Breeders was established through the partnership of the Geldenhuys and Frew families during 2015. Swartberg Game Breeders together with Welgevonden Game Breeders look forward to being a significant player in a fast growing and highly successful game ranching industry in the Western Cape, which is currently experiencing exponential growth through the continuous development of new game farms in the province. This growth is further increasing demand for not only quality game, but also species that have adapted and flourished in the Western Cape’s conditions and habitat over many years.

After being part of this magnificent wildlife ranching industry for the past 18 years we look forward, together with our fellow game ranchers across the country, to a continued success well into the future.
